Sprouts for healthy life
Rich in vitamins and low calories, sprouts are a common ingredient in healthy meals. They are also excellent winter vegetable and a source of vitamins in cold months. They are suitable as an addition to various salads and sandwiches or fried meat.
Growing sprouts is simple and for smaller quantities, which we will use at home, we do not need special equipment. A suitable glass jar is good enought.
Which Seeds we use:
We do not use disinfected seeds to grow vegetables or crops for the cultivation of sprouts. If the seed is disinfected, you will read it on the seed bag packaging. The sprouts are most commonly grown from the seed of garden cress, radish, lucerne, broccoli and mustard.
Sprouts from a glass:
Glasses, in which we grow sprouts, first wash and dry. For two tablespoons of seeds, rinse the seeds under water and then shake them into a glass in which they pour the water. The water level in the glass should be twice the thickness of the seed layer.
Cover the glass with a thiny woven piece of cloth or a remaining piece of old nylon socks that are fastened with a rubber or metal ring and placed for six to eight hours in a dark room with a temperature of 18-23 ° C.
Seeds will germinate after two to three days:
We must wash them at least twice a day beforehand, in order to prevent the seeds from molding or acidification. We wash them so that we drain the water through the fabric and pour in a new one, and then put the glass in a dark place again. To give the tips of the spouts a nice green color, just before they reach the desired size, we pou them for a day in a bright space.
There are still two to five days to use:
The final size suitable for use will germinate in the next two to five days. Appropriate sprouts size also depends on the type of seed that is being planted. It is best for beginners to try to determine the size of which germination is most delicious to them. If they have a bitter taste, they are already too big.
Germination of Sprouts in a Sprout Maker:
The easiest way is to germinate sprouts in a sprout maker, which are also available in garden centers Kalia. There we will also find a large selection of seeds for growing germs and all necessary instructions for preparation. If we do not use sprouts immediately, they can be stored in a refrigerator in a well-closed container for about a week.
Sprouts have high nutritional value as they are a natural source of vitamins, minerals, proteins, ballast and etheric substances and unsaturated fatty acids. We use them for salads, spreads, dried dishes, accessories, gourds and omelets.
Benefits of growing germs: every day, especially in the autumn and winter, they represent fresh and healthy vegetables, which can be grown in the Sprout maker at the home kitchen counter.
